  • 1970's

    Lakeview Montesssori School was founded in 1978 by Ms. Janice Mayhew and housed 15 students in St. Mark’s Church Hall.
  • 1980's

    Lakeview continued to grow and was registered as a non-profit organization in 1981. It also became incorporated and is run by a Board of Directors.
  • 1990's

    The new 6500 square foot, 2-storey addition was completed to accommodate the increasing enrolment. After school activities such as tutoring, music lessons etc. began. All classes were under one roof. This new facility gave space to house 6 classrooms, a library, offices, reception area, learning materials area, a spacious staff room and beautiful kitchen.
  • 2000's

    Janice Mayhew, the founder of this school, retired and Lakeview was under new management with Ms. Tesich. Ms. Mayhew continues to co-ordinate the MACTE accredited Lakeview Montessori Teacher’s Education Training. The facility got a face lift and 13815 Riverside Drive was purchased.
  • 2010's

    Under the direction of Prof. Maureen Harris the school re-branded to accurately reflect a new 21st century vision. Lakeview expanded to include a new Middle School Enrichment Program, became home to the new Arrowsmith Program and embraced the innovative world of global technology.
  • 2018/2019

    In 2018, Lakeview celebrated its 40th Anniversary, upgraded every facet of the school to the highest standards and was recognized with two major national accreditations by the Canadian Accreditation of Independent Schools (CAIS) and the Canadian Council for Montessori Administrators (CCMA). The LMS Montessori Teacher Training Program also acquired a global accreditation (MACTE) providing faculty with opportunities to collaborate with Montessori education colleges in China. 
     
    Lakeview’s new addition was completed to accommodate the increasing enrolment. This new facility gave space to house 3 more classrooms, a robotics room, a music and art performance venue, an atrium for relaxation and meetings, a healing garden, and a gymnasium. Lakeview now stands alone as an exceptional Montessori school with progressive programming and outdoor learning spaces.
     
    Prof. Harris set a goal to make Lakeview the forerunner of what education will look like. It is through her visionary leadership and commitment to innovation and the Arts, the support of Lakeview's Board of Directors, along with the passion and energy the faculty brings to the school, that Lakeview continuously accomplishes these goals. “You can feel the levels of energy and positivity here”, says Harris. The strong academic foundation established in the classroom is paralleled by the success Lakeview students encounter in their work lives. Harris believes in pushing the boundaries to promote academic excellence and prepare students to engage in the world as active, successful leaders.
  • 2022

    Prof. Maureen Harris retires after committing a decade of leadership. In her last 3 years, Prof. Harris brought the school through the COVID-19 Pandemic safely. 

    Mrs. Renee Ryerson was appointed interim Head of School.
  • 2023

    Mrs. Renee Ryerson was appointed Head of Lakeview Montessori School.

    November 2023, Lakeview Montessori School expands its footprint by purchasing the plaza on the corner of Arlington and Riverside Drive.

    During the 2023–2024 school year, Lakeview made significant enhancements to its arts and athletics programs. A new stage curtain, lighting, and sound system were installed to elevate student performances and school events, while a state-of-the-art scoreboard was added to the gymnasium to support athletic tournaments and foster school spirit.
  • 2024

    The addition of the new multipurpose facility allowed Lakeview to host a variety of events on campus, prompting several key enhancements. These included the installation of frosted windows for added privacy and a high-quality projector to support family movie nights, virtual programming such as yoga and professional development sessions, school assemblies, and a wide range of community events.
  • 2025

    This has been an exciting time at Lakeview, marked by continued growth and generosity within their community. The Elementary students are especially grateful to the Annobile family for their generous gift of a brand-new play structure. This addition to the playground has not only enhanced the outdoor learning and recreational environment but also reflects the strong spirit of support and commitment from our Lakeview families.
